Every day money is being sucked out of our country in hordes, money that should have been spent to develop our country, reduce poverty and combat other serious threats facing India. Lack of reliability. You simply cannot expect the police/fire brigade to be there in time. If something takes 10 days, it gets done here in 50 days. Lack of national pride. We hate our country for so many things. And it’s easy as there are few to love about India at the moment. Indians, on the other hand, love everything that has to do with the west. We think it’s paradise on earth. Umreeca, Kanneda and Englaaaand, the three main nations where Indians like to go and settle. And yes, they live there and they can’t pronounce the names properly. Interfaith Hate. Yes, this is still prevalent in most parts of the nation. Parents teach their children to hate followers of other religions. We do not accept people of other religions so easily. For example, let’s say you want to rent a room in an upscale metro in India. There is a big chance that you will be rejected because you are of a different religion, eat meat, are from the Northeast, etc. Yes, we also discriminate against our own fellow citizens. And that’s hammered into our brains throughout our childhood through a multitude of jokes and stories. We know less about our country than the west. We could probably name more American states than Indian ones. We hardly know anything about our country’s leaders, etc. Our educational system was rather too rigid. We have been taught a lot, mostly facts that are of little use. And we have never had any practical experience. Everything here is theory. Our teachers are not up to date, our curriculum is outdated, we don’t have facilities like projectors etc. We still had an excellent education system. It may be memorization based, but it has produced amazing results. Now we’re copying the West, as we always do, and have started to reduce our education system to a much less demanding and student-friendly system where everyone participates and learns by doing. Balls that would work, I had exams at the end of each semester. I didn’t do anything all year except these ten days of exams in each semester. This system works great in India. We don’t have the resources like developed countries to implement their education system here. And why do we even want this system, we were much better off I would say. We learn to shy away from responsibility. Read my previous points. I have always blamed the government, the system and never myself. We excel at blaming others. Politicians are corrupt and therefore our country cannot move forward. Well, that’s essentially true, but it’s up to us that they’re corrupt. Our country is dirty not because of the government, but because we, myself included, throw trash on the ground and not in a trash can. Expensive health care. Too many people, too few doctors. Medical school a nightmare. You can see where I’m going with this. Values. Balls to your so-called values. I would like to say that about so many values and traditions that the upper generation keeps forcing on me. You were relevant in your time, not mine, so please refrain. A few of them are really good though. But most are far too rigid for the 21st century. The great discrepancy between the haves and the have-nots. Now imagine we go to lunch and to the cinema in Delhi (the capital, my city). The film would cost around $200-$300 in a decent venue. The popcorn plus snack about $150. Let’s round it down to $370. Now lunch. Even McDonalds, the cheapest of the real restaurants, would cost at least $150-200. Let the total be $550. Take 50 for trips although auto rickshaw prices have gone up a lot lately. Let the total be $600 and here I am as low as can be. There are people supporting huge families with wages like $30 a day. Even on days when they can actually find jobs. That’s $900 for a whole family for a whole month. Putting a dollar at $60 is about $15. Good luck surviving with that. Still, people survive. And it sickens me to think how reckless I am about spending money when people are in these kinds of situations. It sucks being a girl here. Being a man sucks too, but I think women have it a lot worse. From the killing of female children to dowries (a tradition in which the bride’s family gives exorbitant sums of money, jewelry, cars, etc. to the groom’s family for no apparent reason), girls have it worse. Also, many parents don’t believe in wasting money raising their daughters. So many families want their sons to marry a well educated girl but she should not work after marriage. Then come the crimes against women. They are alarmingly high and sometimes really nasty. we suck I don’t know what goes on in the mind of a molester/rapist so I can’t fathom why they do it. But we must seriously fight these crimes to make our cities and communities safe for women. Bullshit customs like honor killings. Basically, the village/town community decides to kill their own relatives for daring to fall in love. I do not understand it either. But that often happens. And there are so many other creepy, disturbing customs. We dont care. When the land is dirty, we make a fuss on Earth Day and throw garbage on the ground the next day. When a stranger needs help, eggs to them, we have our own problems. Our country is in a sorry state right now and we just don’t care. We spend more on marriage than probably all of education, school, college, postgraduate, all combined. Nevertheless, we negotiate with the local greengrocer for amounts of less than a dollar. I mean just give the poor guy the money. Social reservations in schools, colleges, government jobs, and now, if I’m not mistaken, even promotions to government jobs. So if you’re a dumbass who belongs to a supposedly lower class caste, you can easily get into a good school, a great college, practically no hard work, get a great job, and even get a goddamn promotion. Welcome to India. People say that reservations are made to strengthen poor societies and then they make it a damn economic reservation and not a social one. We actually had an exam called AIEEE. The All India Engineering Entrance Examination. It’s the exam with the most participants, about a million a year (We love engineering here). Most decent colleges get past rank 40,000. But wait, these are only the general category seats. We still have a plethora of reserved spots that we can fill with lower-ranking people simply because they are of some Caste. So a 42,000 guy might not get a seat, but a 500,000 guy would. God bless our nation. We face a lot of racism when we go abroad. But it’s not that we don’t reciprocate. We constantly complain about the excessive racism we face outside, yet are fully aware of our own racist acts. We don’t have many of the facilities that are provided in the West. It sucks sometimes, but we make it. We are very good at jugaad, basically we do our jobs one way or another. Too much population. It is synonymous with too much competition. You have to be the best of the best. Or you’re just another average guy. That’s the hard fact of life. Finally, and most importantly, there is no security here. I’m not talking about security against robbers etc, it doesn’t say that either, but I digress. If you fail in life, go to your family, if they cannot support you, neither will the state. You will starve and die if you don’t find work. You can’t rely on the country to take care of you. That is why Indians save a lot. When hard times come, we need to be well prepared. Every country faces problems, India faces more than its share of problems, but it is a brilliant country to grow up in. We may complain about our nation all day long, but deep down e.g
