In hindsight, I think I completely denied how severe my asymmetry had become, frankly, how unattractive my breasts were. I just looked at them as lumps of flesh and noticed my many other flaws. I had a nasty backlash from my family for making it happen. An aunt who is very close to me said a few nasty words about it behind my back – she didn’t see my breasts and didn’t know my problems. In fact, my two best friends, who had seen me naked in locker rooms when we were athletes together in college, told me how amazing I looked, said they were shocked by the transformation, and said I look gorgeous and completely natural out of. I didn’t like being the big-hipped girl with broad shoulders and no breasts, but I figured it was my destiny. I didn’t think a boob job would solve it. People don’t know I’ve had implants because they look so natural and finally make my body proportional. The few new friends I’ve told about it are stunned. The surprising reaction came from men walking down the street – I never got hit on in bars or got much attention. Boy has that changed! I think that reaction made me more understanding that my husband “wants” me to do this. Men clearly react to boobs. You’d think I’d have realized this sooner, but being not naturally well endowed I really didn’t understand how hard it is in men. ys’ worst show about the best of the other boys. But after seeing both bands live and listening to extensive concert recordings I think I know what you mean. Pink Floyd has always been more about the show than the band. The band members themselves were relatively faceless (a fact they parodies in both aspects of The Wall and throwaway lines like “btw, which one is pink”*) and relied in no way on traditional rock star charisma over performance. Early on they focused on the experimental nature of the music, the light show and the sound production. Syd Barrett’s excesses aside, the band was relatively straight-forward, even geeky, and very inward-looking (seldom acknowledging audiences at all). The result was consistent technical excellence, perhaps at the expense of spontaneity and instant connection. Led Zeppelin were almost the opposite of all of these qualities. Page and Plant were the capital’s superstars and a Zep concert was all about being in their Realistic Sex Doll presence, charisma and swagger. Where her records were mostly flawless, on stage the only thing that was tight was her pants. Zeppelin shows were intentionally underpolished, underplanned and spontaneous, favoring the long blues-based jam and extended solo time.
